Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a mental health disorder that can cause above-normal levels of hyperactive and impulsive behaviours. Children with ADHD may also have trouble focusing their attention on a single task or sitting still for long periods of time.

ADHD symptoms

A wide range of behaviours is associated with ADHD. Some of the more common ones include:

  • Having trouble focusing or concentrating on tasks
  • Being forgetful about completing tasks
  • Being easily distracted
  • Having difficulty sitting still
  • Interrupting people while they’re talking

If your child has ADHD, Occupational Therapy can be very beneficial to their development. At Kiddy-Up Occupational Therapy, we work with parents and teachers, providing strategies to help kids with ADHD manage everyday life.

We help children with ADHD improve certain skills, such as:

  • Organization and planning
  • Physical coordination
  • Developing independence in everyday tasks
  • Controlling their energy levels and hyperactivity

As Occupational Therapists, we use a unique and holistic perspective. We utilize our background in anatomy, physiology, neurology, and psychology to formulate a comprehensive treatment plan. We use a child’s strengths to help them overcome their challenges and improve their participation in daily activities at home, in the community, and at school.

As qualified Occupational Therapists, we work closely with families and teachers to provide them with practical strategies, customized to each child. Our activities are structured and graded to help children increase their independence across environments.
